The lift and shift transfer unit functions by combining linear motion with a mechanical lift to move tool trays. As the lower carriage moves horizontally, it drives the upper carriage vertically along a fixed linear guideway. This system enables the unit to perform both lifting and shifting motions without requiring separate electromechanical or pneumatic devices, all powered by a single gearmotor.
The Tool Tray Shuttle is designed to precisely shift tooling or parts over customer-specified distances, providing high precision and repeatability. It uses a Rack and Pinion system for movement, ensuring minimal maintenance due to its lubrication-free design. With its reduced backlash and high tolerance, it supports various automotive manufacturing applications, offering adaptability through its flexible cable carriers and interchangeable top. This makes it highly suitable for environments that require precision and customization.
Motion Index Drives designed this tool tray transfer system for flexibility, allowing the customer to extend it in the future for different applications. We provided the power, feedback cable and control panel, making it a complete package. Our linear transfer systems can be provided with an AC motor with an absolute encoder for positioning or an aux axis to the robot. A 4:5 safety factor was incorporated into the design to handle the weight and speed requirements of the transfer system.
