A large manufacturer of defense parts and machinery contact us as they had been recently awarded a job to build large wind generator housings for Vestas, the largest wind power generator company in the world. The application was a robotic mig welding application that required a large trunnion to rotate steel pieces, totaling 25,000 lbs, and index them precisely in 45 degree increments.
Motion utilitized our standard RT400 rotary index drive, mounted as a trunnion. Since the RT series index drives are completely sealed, mounting the unit on its side was no issue. The indexer was built and shipped complete with a high efficiency AC motor coupled to a helical bevel gear reducer with shrink disk connection, to eliminate the possibility of keyway backlash due to an offset tilting moment on the index drive from the trunnion.
